Joan of Art

Our hands were covered in oil pastels and chalk today. We were getting right into the water colour, and trying out a Joan Miro style painting. It's funny, because in general I really can't appreciate modern art when it's up on the Art gallery wall, but gee it's fun to paint!

We also looked up pictures of different types of body cells under magnification. Chicken no. 1 was rather grossed out by some of them, but the boy couldn't get enough of pictures of the brain and other slimey things!

A caterpillar came walking by

We have actually done quite a bit of craft and sewing recently (including nature bags for the children's birthdays), but somehow I haven't gotten around to taking photos yet... Too busy organising the kids holiday services at church and reading books! But we're back to school term again this week, which I always seem to start with a cleaning frenzy... Unbelievable how much washing is waiting to be sorted on my bed at the moment...

This little fella was spotted due to his proximity to the clothes line!

Officially cake'd out

Ok, so we've officially had too much cake. But it's been fun!

And amidst all the excitement, chicken no.1 rescued a butterfly from the puppy's mouth and promptly named it 'Tatters'. How did we know it was a butterfly and not a moth? It rests with it's wings up, and the ends of it's antennae are swollen.

Another day, another birthday...

Happy birthday to my littlest girl today! 3 years old, and as sweet as can be.

Unfortunately she came down with a vomiting wog during the night - poor little thing. So I think she'll be spending most of today sitting quietly watching tv and being waited on!

Sunday cricket

Sunday was a beautiful sunny day. Just perfect for a spot of cricket.

I've decided to take refuge in the study for a while - chicken no.2 has stated his goal of counting to 750 out loud. Phew. 342... 343... 344...

Excitement in the mail

Chicken no.1 was thrilled today when the post arrived! She had written a letter to Jackie French about her book How to Guzzle Your Garden, and had asked if she had any spare loquat trees. Today she received a reply with some loquat shoots! How great is that?! I imagine that Jackie has plenty of fan mail to reply to, and was quite touched that she took the time to hand write a letter and pick some shoots from her garden. Lovely.

We have her Fair Dinkum Histories series too, which is very easy to read (when you're old enough for the details!) - it's amazing how much Australian history I have learnt recently!

The art of spoiling your puppy

There has been a lot of this during the week. Cuddling, carrying, playing with the puppy.

I've barely seen the children because they've been outside so much! Which has allowed me to get some knitting done. I even learnt how to do a zigzag lace knit, and how to block my work when finished - I sound like a real knitter now, eh?!
